At DME Tyres Ltd, compliance isn’t just a box we tick — it’s at the heart of everything we do. With over 40 years of industry experience, we understand that tyre recycling and waste management come with serious environmental, legal, and safety responsibilities. That’s why every stage of our operation — from collection to final recycling — fully adheres to UK waste regulations and best practice standards.
Fully Licensed & Regulated
We are proud to be a fully licensed and permitted waste carrier, broker, and site operator.
Our Burntwood facility holds a full Environment Agency site licence, allowing us to legally store, process, and recycle waste tyres in a controlled and compliant environment.
We operate strictly under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Duty of Care Regulations 1991, and all subsequent legislation governing waste management in the UK.
When you choose DME Tyres Ltd, you’re working with a company that’s:
- Fully licensed by the Environment Agency
- ISO 14001:2015 environmental accredited, demonstrating our commitment to environmental best practice
- WAMITAB qualified — ensuring technical competence and continued compliance
- Full members of the Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) and the Responsible Recycler Scheme (RRS)
- Compliant with the PAS 107 standard, producing high-quality recycled tyre products
Waste Transfer Documentation
Every collection we carry out is accompanied by a Waste Transfer Note (WTN) — a legal document that proves your waste tyres are being transported safely, responsibly, and in full compliance with UK law.
This documentation confirms your tyres are in transit to our licensed Burntwood site, where they will be securely stored and processed. Our customers retain a copy of each WTN for their own audit and compliance records — protecting both their business and reputation
Why Licensing Matters
Unfortunately, not all tyre collectors operate legally.
Some unlicensed or “exempt” operators stockpile tyres beyond legal limits, putting the public and environment at risk. Large piles of tyres are a serious fire hazard — and if ignited, they can burn for days, weeks, or even months, releasing thick black smoke full of toxic chemicals harmful to people and the environment.
Using a fully licensed facility like DME Tyres Ltd protects your business from this risk.
If tyres are mishandled by an unregulated collector or illegally dumped, the Environment Agency can trace them back to the original source — meaning you could be held legally responsible and face prosecution.
Always check that your tyre collector or recycler holds a full site licence, not just a waste carrier’s licence
Why Improper Tyre Storage Harms the Environment
Large or unmanaged piles of tyres don’t just pose a fire risk — they’re also extremely harmful to the environment in several other ways:
- Fire Hazard & Toxic Emissions
- Tyres are made from rubber, oil, and synthetic compounds that burn at very high temperatures.
- Once alight, a tyre fire can burn for days, weeks, or even months, releasing thick black smoke filled with toxic gases, heavy metals, and particulate matter.
- These fumes can cause respiratory problems in people and pollute the atmosphere for miles.
- Soil & Water Contamination
- During a fire or through slow degradation, tyres can leach harmful chemicals like oils, heavy metals, and microplastics.
- These contaminants can seep into soil and groundwater, affecting plants, animals, and nearby ecosystems.
- Pest Breeding Grounds
- Stacked tyres easily collect rainwater, creating stagnant pools that are perfect breeding sites for mosquitoes and other pests.
- In the UK, this increases the risk of disease and contributes to environmental imbalance.
- Land Use & Visual Pollution
- Stockpiled tyres take up huge amounts of space, creating eyesores and reducing usable land.
- Illegal dumping or stockpiling can ruin local landscapes, damage habitats, and lower nearby property values.
- Lost Recycling Potential
- Every tyre left to degrade or dumped illegally is a missed opportunity to recycle valuable materials into new, sustainable products — such as sports surfaces, road materials, and industrial fuel alternatives.
Setting the Standard for Responsible Recycling
Our approach goes beyond compliance — we set the standard for safe, sustainable tyre management in the UK.
We maintain strict environmental controls, fire-prevention systems, and engineered hardstanding with sealed drainage to prevent pollution or contamination.
Every tyre that enters our facility is accounted for, processed, and recycled responsibly — creating new life as:
- PAS107-quality recycled products
- Fuel alternatives used in cement production, replacing fossil fuels
- Construction materials, reducing demand for sought-after natural resources such as stone aggregate
